How to... Mental Health
Studying is demanding - and your main job for the next few years.
Challenges as a first-time graduate
As a first-time graduate, this path is often associated with special challenges. You are entering an environment that many people take for granted, but which may seem strange to you at first. You may feel that you don't understand everything straight away, that you have to constantly search for information yourself or that you don't "fit in" like others. In addition, there is often the question of financing: part-time job, BAföG application, uncertain future planning - all this takes strength and nerves. Perhaps you sometimes look at your fellow students and ask yourself whether you are really good enough.
Mental Health
On the following subpages you will find offers that can help you to better identify your challenges and find ways to deal with them. We have also compiled a list of support services at TU Dresden.
Mental barriers - Recognize the inner hurdles that could burden you during your studies
Formal support - all official contact points at TU Dresden
Informal support - whether it's a circle of friends or an exchange with other first-year students
Use your strengths!
Let them tell you: You are good enough. You belong here. Your place at the university is just as deserved as everyone else's.
Because as a first-year student, you bring something to the table that many underestimate: Courage, perseverance, curiosity and the ability to acquire knowledge independently. This doesn't make you less, it makes you stronger - and you're not alone. Many students have similar experiences. It's perfectly okay to ask for support - it's not a sign of weakness, but of strength. Asking for help shows: "I want to keep going, I want to grow."
Remember: you are a role model - for yourself, for your family and for others who will follow in your footsteps.
