Johanna-Weinmeister-Campus
The number of women who opt for studies in STEM subjects is only growing slowly. STEM hereby stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In the winter semester 2022/2023, the proportion of female new students in the field of physics amounted to 25.4 per cent, in the field of computer science to 20.6 percent, in mechanical engineering to 17.8 and in electrical engineering to 1735 percent.
The TU Dresden is therefore particularly concerned to support and promote women and girls on their way to STEM studies and during them. It is taken into account that the orientation phase of future female students already begins at kindergarten age and extends to a successful career entry.
One way of promoting this is to create role models - whether current or historical. Do you know Johanna Weinmeister or Charlotte Bühler, for example? In a project, the Diversity Management department is looking at female pioneers in our university history as well as outstanding female academics and would like to make the public more aware of them. Among other things, they are to be made permanently visible through memorials, exhibitions and naming processes. For this reason, the Johanna Weinmeister Campus will in future include all projects that aim to inform young women about study opportunities in a technical or scientific field and to motivate them to take up studies at TU Dresden.
