Plastics Processing: Dr. Robert Kupfer (#RK1)
Format
Lecture and practical training
Keywords
Virtual training, mechanical and testing technology, interactive presentation
Description
Contrary to lectures, which are relatively easy to conduct virtually, new teaching and learning concepts were needed for preparing, conducting and doing follow-up work for virtual practicals and training. On-site, students operated real processing and testing systems. They also ran, interpreted and evaluated trials. The virtual and interactive practical training in plastics processing therefore comprised an explanation of the systems and their functions, process videos and illustrative process datasets. Students were required to complete one or more tasks as part of this training. The virtual practical training was created in PowerPoint’s Kiosk Mode, allowing students to use the buttons to navigate through the slides as they needed. Each slide featured audio commentary, making the slides accessible to all. These presentations were not created by multimedia professionals, but the time, energy and attention to detail invested by the young engineers who made them as well as their dedication to trying out these new methods of communication really shines through.
