Curriculum
After a fundamental general education in the Process
Engineering program, which the students have to pass during
their first 2 years at the University, they may then attend
specialised programs to become engineers in >>Food Engineering or in >>Bioprocess Engineering. Whereas,
during the first part of the basic studies, engineering aspects
are largely emphasised, the students achieve a broad education
in relevant science disciplines during their specialisation.
This combination enables our alumni to cope with problems at
the complex interface of process variables and biological
systems which, due to metabolic changes during processing, show
entirely changing properties. The broad scientific basis of the
curriculum offers a large variety of job opportunities to our
students.
What does an alumni?
As early as with the choice of their educational
specialisation, students obviously ask for professional
perspectives. Benefits and drawbacks that arise from an early
and deep specialisation versus a very broad educational program
are often not easy to weight up against each other.
>> Engineers in food
technology are most frequently employed as process
engineers or researchers in all fields relevant for the food
industry. However, alumni may also find some job opportunities
in related areas such as the pharmaceutical and cosmetics
industry, or take on administrative employments in public
authorities. They are furthermore employed in plant
construction and engineering companies, as well as in the
packaging industry.
>> Bioprocess
engineers are specialists that are in great demand in
all areas of research and industry. Companies that work in the
field of environmental remediation, but also food companies and
the pharmaceutical industry need the support of bioprocess
engineers to transfer new biochemical findings to technical
scale applications. Besides, our alumni work in new and growing
fields, e.g. bioinformatics.

Alumni Association Netzwerk
Bioverfahrenstechnik Dresden e.V.
The alumni association Netzwerk Bioverfahrenstechnik Dresden
e.V. closely cooperates with the Institute of Food
Technology and Bioprocess Engineering and is a building
block for the development of bioprocess engineering in
Germany, especially in Dresden.
Due to the large number of our members a dense network is
created, their work areas and institutions / companies,
promoting cooperation between bioprocess engineers from
institutions and industries and therefore connecting the
research close to the practice.
Besides the subject-specific exchange of information
Netzwerk Bioverfahrenstechnik Dresden e.V. supports finding
of contacts, sharing of equipment and know-how, tendering of
internships / dissertations and job offers, get-together at
fairs and conferences and much more.
! New members are always welcome !
