Additive manufacturing processes, commonly referred to as 3D printing, are currently revolutionising diverse areas of industry. One widely used approach to 3D printing in construction is to eject ready-mixed concrete from a print head. At the end of the print head is a print nozzle that forms the concrete. The formed strands of the rapidly solidifying concrete are deposited with geometric precision and successively layered on top of each other. The concrete components are thus produced fully automatically, layer by layer. In order to implement concrete 3D printing, the printing device must be controlled via specially prepared data structures and have a sophisticated data management system. Slicing" is the key process of data processing. It includes, among other things, the analysis of BIM models and the slicing of the 3D structure to be printed into printable layers.
In the BIM-B3D Slicer project, software is to be developed that automatically determines the optimal print path for any building model depending on the printing process and the selected hardware (printer, print head, etc.). In the process, data from the building model (BIM/IFC) is evaluated, enriched with project- and process-specific content and converted into a machine-readable code.
