Security of dams
The safety of dams is a long-standing work and research topic in the field of hydromechanics in hydraulic engineering. Dams must meet the highest demands on their reliability. The assessment of the effects for the cases in which the assumptions made for the calculation or dimensioning of a dam are exceeded also falls into the reliability assessment of dam systems. This also includes the consideration of hypothetical failure scenarios and the associated outflow, for which numerous studies have been and are carried out across Germany.
As part of the knowledge transfer, participation in the development of the DWA thematic booklet "Damming System Safety and Consequences of Exceeding the Design Assumptions according to DIN 19700" (T1 / 2017) and the design of DWA seminars on this topic took place.
