Titel, content and qualification objectives
Title: Interdisciplinary field trip to the North German lowlan
Content: Description, evaluation, management and harvest of forests stands in the North German Lowland as well as case studies on plan approval procedures, reforestation of virgin soils, biological coastal protection and cultivation of trees within an agricultural landscape.
Qualification objectives: Students will be able to analyse forest situations, to evaluate course of actions and to develop alternatives, and to communicate with stakeholders. They will gain the competences to develop targeted management concepts for Scots pine, oaks, European beech and Douglas fir. Moreover, students will have the knowledge on the utilisation of important types of wood in wood-processing industry and their forest management, including necessary technologies. They will also know about the special features of forestry in protected areas, such as national parks, nature protection areas and other objects protected by nature conservation law. In addition, students will be aware of potential conflicts of objectives with regard to different methods of forest management and of the approaches to solve these problems.

Requirements for attendance
Substantial knowledge in the basic and applied fields of forest sciences, which is gained in previous education for example in modules such as FOBF 02-06, FOBF 08-09, FOBF 11, FOBF, 14, FOBF 16-19).
Usability
This module is one out of 25 elective module within the Forest Sciences bachelor degree, of which modules have to be chosen according to § 26 paragraph 3 sentence 2 of the examination regulations.
Requirements for credit points
Credit points are gained, if the module exam is passed. The module exam consists of:
- an oral presentation (60 hours).
In addition, the nine-day field trip has to be attended to pass the module.
Credit points and grades
Students can gain 5 ECTS by passing this module. The module grade is grade of the exam.
Module frequency and duration
This one-semester module is offered every other year (odd-numbered years) in the summer semester.
Workload
The total workload is 150 hours.
