New forms of mobility
With the smartphone mobility survey ‘Städte in Bewegung: Mobilität verstehen – Zukunft gestalten‘ (StiB), one of our aims is to research new forms of mobility that could potentially become a reality in the future.
Various companies and research institutions are currently working on the development of air taxis. Whether these will actually become part of the German transport system at some point depends not only on technical feasibility but also on the economic viability and social acceptance of the technology.
In order to research new, future forms of mobility, it is not enough to simply know the current mobility behaviour of citizens. We also need to ask them what decisions they would make if new technologies such as air taxis were available.

To do this, we are working with an online questionnaire that builds on the smartphone mobility survey. For selected trips made by StiB participants, we want to find out whether they would use an air taxi for these journeys.
We need this information to find out what benefits these new technologies would have from an individual perspective, but also to assess the positive and negative effects on society and the environment and to evaluate the economic viability.
Our research results can help to ensure that politicians and society can make well-informed decisions about the use of new technologies as soon as they are technically available.
Who can participate?
Only participants of the smartphone-based mobility survey ‘Städte in Bewegung’ (StiB) can participate in the online survey on air taxis. StiB-participants who agree to get contacted for follow-up surveys will receive an e-mail invitation when they have tracked a sufficient number of trips via the smartphone survey.
Why should I participate?
With your participation you support current research on air taxis as a possible future transport mode. You help in the understanding of societal benefits as well as negative impacts of adapting this technology. In addition, participants receive a 10 € voucher as a reward.
