JPI Climate & JPI Oceans Joint Transnational Call
The Joint Programming Initiatives (JPI) Oceans and Climate have opened a joint call for proposals titled 'Next Generation Climate Science in Europe for Oceans'. The purpose of this call for proposals is to support research projects addressing one of the following three topics:
- Strengthening our understanding of climate variability and extremes resulting from the interactions with the oceans such as extratropical and tropical cyclones, and how they are affected by climate change on a range of time scales.
- Improving the representation of air-sea interactions, physical and biogeochemical ocean processes in Earth System Models to better represent small-scale non-linear processes as well as water, energy and carbon cycles. Model-data analyses using innovative approaches will be welcome.
- Improving estimates of climate change induced modifications of ocean physics and ocean chemistry, associated with biogeochemical cycles, including ocean acidification and carbon sequestration.
The joint call is supported by 8 countries (Belgium, Germany, France, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Norway, Portugal) with a total budget of 8.1 million EUR. Applications must focus on one topic. The BMBF supports the participation of German scientists in topics 01. and 02. with a total of EUR 2 million. It is a one-stage funding procedure. The deadline for submitting proposals is on 14 June 2019 at 13:00 CEST. A start of funding of the successfully evaluated projects is expected to be in the first quarter of 2020.
