TUD Award for Excellent Science Communication
TU Dresden researchers are making a valuable contribution to solving global challenges with their excellent research. And thanks to science communication, their findings are made understandable and accessible to politicians, economists and the general public.
The TUD Award for Excellent Science Communication aims to recognize and honor this commitment. The objective is to make best practice examples of science communication at TUD more visible, to promote existing initiatives, and to encourage TUD researchers to actively communicate their research results to the public. The award is funded as part of TUD's Excellence Strategy.
1. Who can apply?
The TUD Award for Excellent Science Communication can be bestowed either to individual (early-career) researchers or to research groups at TU Dresden who work together and communicate their results effectively to the public. We welcome applications from all disciplines.
2. What criteria are important to the jury?
The award is open to all forms of communication. The important criteria are:
- Originality
- Concept
- Impact
- Scalability
- Reach within your target group and/or level of public visibility
A jury of renowned external experts in science communication (BMBF, NaWik...) will evaluate the applications and proposals according to the above criteria.
3. When and in what form can proposals be submitted?
- Applications open from: January 9, 2025
- Application deadline: February 14, 2025
- Award ceremony: May 15, 2024
The documents submitted should provide information about the science communication and the person(s) who created it. This should be no more than four standard A4 pages (in PDF format) and include the following:
- A description of the science communication
- A brief introduction of the people involved
- Presentation of the project's impact
- Presentation of the possible scalability of the concept/project
- Please include a link to additional material (photos, videos, project websites etc.) in the PDF
4. Is there any prize money?
The first prize is endowed with EUR 5,000. There is also a prize for early-career researchers (for PhD students and postdocs), endowed with EUR 2,500.
The prize money must be used for a specific purpose, namely to develop new science communication initiatives or to expand existing ones.
