“Gute Frage” video series
As part of “Gute Frage” (“Good Question”), researchers from TU Dresden and our partner institutions answer the most pressing questions of our time!
Drought, forest fires, and bark beetles: We have heard more and more in recent years that the forests are suffering. But how are they actually doing? Can AI help fight pests such as the bark beetle? Can literature about trees help us better understand the consequences of climate change? This episode of “Gute Frage” explores these issues. We talk to scientists at TU Dresden – especially in Tharandt, where forestry experts conduct research and teach – about tree ring research, forest fire prevention, and bark beetle control.
“Kurze Frage” video series
In “Kurze Frage” (“quick question”), researchers give short and to the point answers to our questions on a wide range of topics.
From earth, we always see the same side of the moon – even though the moon turns on its own axis. Prof. Martin Tajmar from the Institute of Aerospace Engineering explains why we still never get to see the other side.
“Bright Minds” video series
Excellent research requires the brightest minds – and we introduce some of them in this video series.
How do organs determine and control their size? This question has long remained unresolved in biology. Developmental biologist Dr. Rita Mateus is looking for an answer within the DRESDEN-concept research alliance. She and her team are studying the growth and shaping of organs in zebrafish and how this may be translated to humans. Dr. Mateus is one of the eight dedicated scientists featured in the film “Bright Minds. Excellent Research.” which provides insights into cutting-edge research at TU Dresden.

Introducing” video series
This series introduces newly appointed professors whose research is particularly important for TUD’s research profile and who also held university-wide inaugural lectures.
How can we develop photovoltaic technologies that are not only highly efficient but also sustainable? In her research, Prof. Yana Vaynzof focuses on a special class of semiconductor materials that can be produced at low temperatures using simple coating processes and can be used in highly efficient photovoltaic devices. Since 2023, she has been the Chair of Emerging Electronic Technologies and Director of the Institute for Emerging Electronic Technologies at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden.
