Faculty Board
The Faculty Board is the faculty’s highest governing body. It is responsible for all matters of fundamental importance to the faculty, such as enacting study and examination regulations, establishing degree programs, and appointing members to appointment committees (Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act, § 93 SächsHSG). The members of the Faculty Board elect the dean, Vice-Dean, and Deans of Studies for a three-year term. The dean heads the faculty and is accountable to the Faculty Board. Duties and Responsibilities
Section 93 of the Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act ( SächsHSG ) stipulates the following responsibilities of the Faculty Board:
(1) The Faculty Board is responsible for all matters of fundamental importance to the faculty, in particular for:
- the adoption of study and examination regulations,
- the adoption of doctoral and habilitation regulations,
- proposals for the establishment, discontinuation, and modification of degree programs,
- coordinating research projects,
- proposals for target agreements between the faculty and the University Executive Board,
- the faculty’s statements on the university’s performance agreements with the State Ministry of Science and the Arts,
- ensuring the continuity of its course offerings and planning the academic programs in accordance with the faculty’s development plan,
- evaluation procedures pursuant to § 9,
- proposals for the preparation of the faculty’s structural and development plans,
- participation in drafting the university’s budget,
- statements on the allocation of positions and funds assigned to the faculty,
- providing academic advising,
- appointing members to appointment committees and making proposals for the job descriptions of university faculty positions.
