Dr. Anna-Maria Asunta Eder has been awarded an Eleonore Trefftz guest professorship at the Department of Philosophy. She will research and teach at the department for one year.
Her areas of specialization are philosophy of logic, epistemology, philosophy of science, and metaphilosophy. In the philosophy of logic, she examines the normativity of deductive logic and the role of deductive and probabilistic principles in reasoning. In epistemology, Anna-Maria studies epistemic normativity and epistemological goals, epistemological rationality, the relationship between epistemological and practical rationality. At the intersection of epistemology and philosophy of science, she deals with disagreements between scientists, expertise and collaboration, society's trust in science, and the role of science in society in general (e.g., in (social) media and policymaking). Within the philosophy of science, she also focuses on interpretations of probabilities and scientific goals. In metaphilosophy, Anna-Maria mainly works on the role of idealizations in philosophy and the clarification and construction of concepts. As can be seen from the descriptions of her specializations, she also has research interests in practical philosophy, e.g., on theories of practical rationality and decision theories (including the social choice theory). A distinctive feature of Anna-Maria's research is that she answers research questions by combining formal and non-formal philosophical methods.
