Networked advice on "Feste feiern wie sie fallen" - democracy education in the context of (village) festivals, carnival parades and club celebrations
In our second NETWORKED CONSULTATION on Monday, April 25, 2022, 15 colleagues from the Partnerships for Democracy (PfD) were with us at JoDDiD-Zoom. We worked on these questions:
How can a "(village) fair become a democracy project?
Where can political/democratic learning/experience take place before, during and after a festival?
Which political topics and events can also be celebrated so that the festival is a learning opportunity?
An analysis of the "festival space" - in many cases a central (market) square - and its possible spatial elements, e.g. stage, audience seating, stands, intermediate spaces, surrounding buildings, etc. was part of our exchange - in line with the JoDDiD approach of thinking about democracy education more in terms of "spaces" than target groups.
The interests and motives that motivate people to take part in a festival were also part of our brief analysis. We threw some ideas around and used examples to discuss when something is democracy education and what it is not (yet).
JoDDiD will definitely continue to work on (village) festival learning settings with the results of the day and is happy to advise initiatives and associations on the development of projects or the further development of project applications.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all our colleagues who took part today. And we look forward to further exchanges.
For inspiration for all those who would like to learn more about the "spatial approach" or would like suggestions for political education in (im)possible places, we recommend our new EVENING SCHOOL PART "Von Zielgruppen zu Räumen" (From target groups to spaces) and JoDDiD's IDEENPOOL, which is constantly filling up.
