The media environment of migration. Cultural Negotiations in the 20th and 21st Centuries, Bielefeld: transcript August 2022, 420 pages (with Elisabeth Tiller).
Migration is one of the central challenges of our time. It is omnipresent in media representations, which are used to emotionalize, plausibilize or moderate social discussion - be it in films, novels, talk shows, art events or daily newspapers. This volume puts media potentials to the test: Which interpretations are launched, which narratives, political measures and emotional politics are created, supported or invalidated? By analyzing the feedback between real problems and media interpretations, the contributions help to better understand current cultural negotiation processes.

Codex oblitus. Curtius Rufus in the Italian translation by Lodrisio Crivelli: Analysis of the edition of Mscr.Dresd.Ob.47
The critical edition of manuscript texts harbors considerable knowledge potential for all humanities research. For the age of humanism in particular, variant textual witnesses document the circulation of linguistic ideas, and their indexing thus contributes significantly to the consolidation of knowledge about the epoch and its genres.
Li gesti di re Alexandro, an Italian translation of the Historiae Alexandri Magni by Quintus Curtius Rufus from the 15th century, which is now in the Saxon State and University Library Dresden with the shelfmark Mscr.Dresd.Ob.47, was first documented in Filippo Argelati's Repertorium Biblioteca degli Volgarizzatori in 1767. Between the production of the codices and this first mention, 300 years of manuscript history lie in the dark, which is why this study not only re-edits the text of this "Codex oblitus", but also provides a long overdue fundamental indexing. The edition itself is made freely available as additional online material.

Linguistic contextualization of global and local pop cultures

Rap is the starting point for this study of the contemporary Italian language. The multi-perspective approach of Hip Hop Linguistics according to Alim is also applied here to highlight communicative and formal aspects of linguistic contextualization. A socio-historical outline of Italian rap, an illustration of the current state of research and a reference to current reference media are followed by a presentation of lexical and stylistic characteristics. The analytical part of this publication is devoted to the study of mistilinguismo and code-switching. Finally, it discusses how the communicative genre of resistance vernacular can be understood as a bundling of different negotiation processes. Foreign words in the Italian language of sport (1920-1970)
Lexical change under the influence of Fascist foreign word purism as reflected in "La Stampa"
Foreign word purism was the dominant language policy issue during the Fascist regime in Italy. The question of the consequences of the attempt to replace thousands of foreign words in the Italian language has so far eluded a well-founded judgment, as there has been a lack of diachronic comparative data collection with an onomasiological approach.
This study examines the lexical substitution of foreign words theoretically and empirically. Using the example of borrowed sports terminology (e.g. cycling, soccer, boxing, tennis) and with the help of a corpus analysis in the archive of the daily newspaper "La Stampa", it reveals which expression variants for over 100 sports and leisure concepts competed, were abandoned or retained in language use between 1920 and 1970. On this basis, patterns of lexical change and influencing factors of substitution are identified. In addition, fascist foreign word purism is re-periodized and classified on the basis of an in-depth source analysis.
The study sheds light on a key period in Italian language history using linguistic-theoretical as well as factual and linguistic-historical approaches in order to understand the use and criticism of foreign words in contemporary Italian.

L'esthétique populiste. " L'Amour du peuple " dans la culture française de l'entre-deux-guerres, Mimesis 87, French, De Gruyter: Berlin 2021, 501 pages.
The populist novel, a literary movement of the interwar period, is often regarded as a short-lived phenomenon in literary history. However, when re-reading the novels of the group centered around the novelist Léon Lemonnier in its historical context, this movement seems to fully encapsulate the spirit and aesthetic attitudes of the time. By re-reading the most influential authors of the "roman populiste" (Eugène Dabit, Pierre Mac Orlan, Henry Poulaille...) and emphasizing their influence on French poetic realist cinema (including the works of directors such as Marcel Carné or Julien Duvivier), this book undertakes the first in-depth analysis of the populist aesthetic established in France in the years 1929-1935. Thanks to its intermedial approach and a theoretical framework that combines the methods of cultural narratology with perspectives of sociocriticism, this book represents an essential contribution to the study of French cultural history in the entre-deux-guerres.

Between resilience and revolt: On the productive appropriation of crises
What potential do crises offer? What social function does art assume in times of crisis? When does dealing with crises lead to resilience, when to revolt? To what extent do crises and crisis narratives offer a space for intervention, innovation and inspiration?
This volume proposes answers to these questions, based on the observation that numerous aesthetically developed contemporary textual and visual media react to economic, political and social crisis situations.
However, the contributions collected here not only show moments of individual and social hopelessness from a synchronic perspective, but also from a diachronic perspective, which are perceived as a derailment of the collective and a slipping away of one's own history, but do not necessarily lead to resignation. On the contrary, this volume aims to identify different media forms of expression of historical and contemporary crisis reactions within Romania and to relate them to one another in order to articulate the contemporary diagnostic potential of these crisis narratives and the resulting desire to intervene.

"Precarity" - what is it? Just a fashionable euphemism for poverty and exclusion? Or the designation of a completely new situation? This volume defines precarity as the weakening of already achieved social standards and the return of social insecurity.
