From November 4 to 24, 2004, a current exhibition on the tasks and areas of activity of the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt could be viewed in the Auditorium Center of the TU Dresden: On more than 20 large-format panels, the Institute presented its diverse activities at the intersection of culture, politics and society.
In the first section, the more than 20-year history of the DPI was presented, richly illustrated with photographs from the Institute's activities since the early 1980s. In the second section, the series ("Polish Library") and individual publications published by renowned German publishers (Suhrkamp, Harrassowitz, Beck, Cornelsen) since the 1980s were presented on several panels, above all the Institute's new publications: the series "Denken und Wissen" (Suhrkamp), around 60 trenchant essays in "Deutsche und Polen" (C.H. Beck), the teachers' handbook "Polnische Literatur und deutsch-polnische Literaturbeziehungen" (Cornelsen), the yearbook "Ansichten" (Harrassowitz). A third section of the exhibition is dedicated to the Institute's project work, the working groups (Copernicus Group), international conferences in Germany and abroad.
The diverse cultural activities of the Institute in the city and region of Darmstadt and in the German capital Berlin, such as the German-Polish panel discussions, readings, concerts and exhibitions, are also documented.
The Institute's library, which has been open to the general public since the beginning of 2003, presents its treasures on one of the exhibition panels, inviting visitors to come and browse.
