Audio Interfaces 

Im Rahmen des KP AudioInterfaces werden ausgewählte Themen der Interaktion, Exploration, Visualisierung, sowie Erkennung von auditiven Signalen bearbeitet. 
Erfahrung im Bereich Audio ist wünschenswert, aber jeder Kenntnisstand ist willkommen.

DataWorlds // DataSpaces 

In the coming winter semester, the Andreas Pfitzmann Bau will become an exhibition space. The exhibition "DataWorlds // DataSpaces" will be on display in the foyer for around 8 weeks, offering a fascinating insight into the research topics at TU Dresden. One focus is on topics such as complexity and machine learning, which are an important part of current research. The exhibition aims to combine current research findings with historical objects and artistic works and offer visitors an interactive experience. In the KP, we are developing various exhibits that bring these topics to life in a variety of ways. The range of design options extends from screen-based stations to haptic-reactive objects.   

The development process is accompanied by excursions and lectures. The focus of the KP is the development of functional exhibits, which will then actually be presented in the exhibition.

This seminar has two major components. The first is an introduction to academic research methodologies and tools, such as search strategies and tools, managing a bibliography, academic writing styles, citations and avoiding plagiarism. In short, you will learn how to find, read, analyze and write academic texts. 

The second part of the course explores the intersection of philosophy and computer science. We will examine philosophical issues in computing, such as philosophy of mind and phenomenology, computational realism, artificial intelligence and artificial consciousness, as well as sociological, political and ethical topics concerning computing technologies. We will discuss selected writings and films from such authors as Alan Turing, John Searle, Nic Bostrom, Stanislav Lem, Jaron Lanier, Stephen Wolfram, Thomas Metzinger, David Chalmers, Hubert Dreyfus and others. 

As students, you will gain familiarity with the nature of philosophical discourse and argumentation. You will perform your own literature review on a topic of your choice and present results to your fellow students in class.

• Student-led "reading group" 

Tasks and assesment: 

• Write literature review paper on a specific research topic. 

• Class presentation. 

IXLAB is offering a range of individual and group Research Projects in the field of immersive media. Topics include theoretical and perceptual factors, technical challenges, design and interaction issues and novel applications of different manifestations of virtual and augmented reality. Application fields include archaeology, architecture, data visualisation, geospatial science, physiotherapy or psychotherapy, museums and libraries, music and film production, journalism or education and training.

Digital Humanities Colab 

The Digital Humanities Colab brings together students from the Digital Humanities and Informatik degrees to collaborate on projects at the intersection of the humanities and computing. In this course, we explore how recent advances in computing can be applied to research in the humanities and social sciences, such as history, archaeology, anthropology, sociology, linguistics, literature, philosophy and the arts. And vice versa, we ask how the humanities might help us understand the implications and consequences of advances in computing.

Each semester we focus on different themes. For our inaugural semester, we turn our attention to generative AI models and ask what can such models tell us about ourselves and our world? What can analysis of these foundation models reveal about the texts and images used to build them, and the cultures and societies they reflect? How can we visualise the patterns and structures they contain? How can we systematically examine and extract the knowledge embedded in these models and render it in human-understandable form?

Students work in groups to design and develop experiments and prototypes to explore these questions and more. The course will combine theory from both humanities and computer science with hands-on design and development of functioning prototypes.

 Interaktives Theater 

Das Komplexpraktikum soll einen Einblick in das Forschungsgebiet (des UI-/UX-Designs mit innovativen Technologien) geben. Es kann u.U. Licht, Projektion, Tracking, Audio, SurroundSound, SceneUnderstanding, ComputerVision im Theaterraum betrachten. Thematischer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Erfassung des Raumes und der Szenerie. 

Bestandteil ist die Konkretisierung der angedachten Forschungs- & Entwicklungsfragen und die im Rahmen einer Projektarbeit entstehende prototypische Umsetzung. Zu Beginn der Veranstaltung wird insbesondere die Forschungsfrage innerhalb des gewählten Kontextes bezogen auf das Projektthema selbst erarbeitet bzw. aufgestellt. Auf Konzeption und Gestaltung legen wir besonderen Wert. Danach erfolgt eine tiefgreifende Implementation in der vorhandenen Softwareumgebung. 

Parallelbelegung des Pro-/Hauptseminar Audio mit KP Audio ist möglich 

Durch die seminaristische Betrachtung der Kerngebiete im Bereich Audio sollen die wichtigsten theoretischen Grundlagen vermittelt werden.
