Portrait of Professor Wagenführ
Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Wagenführ has held the Chair of Wood Technology and Fiber Materials Technology since 1999 and has been Director of the Institute of Wood and Paper Technology since 2002. In 2006, he was appointed as a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig and in 2008 as a full member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech).
(acatech) in 2008. He was born in Dresden in 1959.
Without ... the complex scientific knowledge of the anatomical structure, chemical composition and mechanical-physical properties of wood and wood-like natural materials, it would not be possible to manufacture, process and remunerate wood products and biomaterials in a resource- and energy-efficient manner.
For me, being a professor... means passing on my knowledge and experience from practice and research to students in a structured and method-oriented way.
Students ... should always strive to absorb the knowledge offered to the maximum, to process it independently and critically and to apply it in a problem-oriented way during and especially after their studies.
In the future ... wood technology, as an indispensable part of natural materials technology, will be even more strongly integrated into teaching and research on an interdisciplinary basis - not only in Dresden and throughout Germany, but throughout Europe.
If I could study again ... I would focus on bionics/biomechanics, because learning from nature represents an infinitely useful potential for mankind, science and business.
Excellence ... at TU Dresden means for me a better scientific reputation in the public eye as well as advantages in student recruitment, combined with the hope for improved teaching and research conditions in view of the local and spatial fragmentation of the Chair.
