Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti officially appointed member of the Academia Europaea
At this year's Academia Europaea, held in Barcelona at the end of October 2022, Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti was presented with the certificate of admission to the Academy. His election as a member of the Physics and Engineering Sciences Section took place already in 2021, but the admission was not official until this year due to the Corona pandemic.
Founded in 1988 on the initiative of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom, Academia Europaea is one of the most prestigious associations of scholars in Europe. Its aim is to promote outstanding scientific achievement in the humanities, law, economics, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine and all branches of the natural and technical sciences. The London-based academy currently has about 5,000 members, including 682 researchers from Germany.
"I am very honored to join this distinguished group of leading scientists from around the world in the Academia Europaea," said Cuniberti. "I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Academy and contributing to the European interest in national research agencies."
"Professor Cuniberti's appointment as a member of the Academia Europaea is a tribute to his outstanding skills and talents, his innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, and his many excellent achievements in research," says Michael Beckmann, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering at TU Dresden. "We are very proud of Professor Cuniberti and this award, which came after a very competitive competition, and I am pleased that our Faculty is represented in this globally important academy."
Cuniberti's current research focuses on data-driven discovery of circular materials and digital olfaction. He has been and continues to be a Principal Investigator on numerous projects funded by private and public funding agencies. His scientific work is documented in more than 500 scientific publications to date. He initiated and organized numerous workshops, schools, and conferences and participated in international research training networks that provide extensive opportunities for young scientists. He has given keynote and plenary lectures at numerous international meetings and is co-editor of the journals Nanoscale and Nanoscale Advances. He also serves as a consultant to various research centers and universities and actively contributes to technology transfer with several spin-off companies that have emerged from his research group, some of which have already achieved successful exits.
