dOxy2SensE - dissolved Oxygen Sens-o-Spheres Expansion
In the planned research project, amensio GmbH, together with the TU Dresden, Chair of Bioprocess Engineering, aims to further develop the existing Sens-o-Spheres platform for the detection of dissolved oxygen concentration through technical innovation.
In addition to the design of an extension of the platform to include further measurement electronics and signal-stable connections of the active measurement electrodes to the existing platform, a measurement method sensitive to dissolved oxygen is required. These sensors should be able to record reliable data points for dissolved oxygen <50 % in physiological media at 15-60 °C with a measuring interval of <1 minute over the measuring periods of maximum 7 days that are usual in biotechnology.
In order to achieve this goal, amensio GmbH, in cooperation with the TU Dresden, Chair of Bioprocess Engineering, is working on the development of the
dOxy2SensE – dOxygen2-Sens-o-Spheres-Expansion
By combining two novel electrochemical approaches known from the literature, the TU Dresden will develop and evaluate a dissolved oxygen measurement method for the size scale of the Sens-o-Spheres. The core innovation is the regeneration of the active electrode surfaces by chronoamperometric alternating potential jumps of oxidation and reduction. This measuring principle is to be embedded in a cavity which also serves as a stabilized reference system and in which, protected by a Teflon membrane, only the dO2 concentration changes, but not other parameters and the composition of the medium. This cavity is to be attached to the Sens-o-Spheres platform in a semi-spherical extension and the platform itself is to be equipped with the necessary measurement electronics.
