MW-VNT-77 Physical principles of wood technology and paper technology
Qualification goals
Students have basic knowledge of the physical behavior of solid wood, wood-based materials and papers when exposed to different external influencing and stress parameters. They will be able to draw conclusions about the use, application and capabilities of solid wood, wood-based materials and papers from the existing material relationships and behaviors and will be able to design materials to withstand stresses.
Contents
The module covers all relevant physical properties, in particular the hygroscopic and mechanical short-term and long-term behavior (static, dynamic), the density and porosity of solid wood, wood-based materials and paper, taking into account the structure-property relationships, i.e. the chemical and anatomical structure. Further content includes the optical properties and surface quality of paper, measurement methods for evaluating surface quality and changes in physical properties during the paper production process.
