MW-VNT-88 Timber construction
Qualification goals
Students have basic knowledge of designing and constructing with wood and wood-based materials as structurally effective building elements and have mastered the basic calculation methods required in the construction industry. They will be familiar with handcrafted timber connections as well as timber engineering connections and understand their load-bearing behavior and will have an overview of the current state of timber constructions and their special features based on completed timber structures. Students will be able to assess the use of materials from the point of view of utilizing the special specific properties of wood and wood-based materials on specific objects.
Contents
Contents of the module include traditions, status and trends in timber construction as well as relevant areas of forestry and anatomical principles including the properties of wood and wood-based materials and wood protection measures as well as the basics of static calculation and verification for typical components and fasteners.
