Reduction of medicaments and hormons by cavitation
The contamination of drinking water by medicaments and hormones becomes an increasing challenge. Although this pollution is constantly rising, there is no feasible technical solution so far.
During the project a process will be developed that removes these substances by cavitation without the use of additional chemicals. The technological challenge consists in the energy efficient generation of cavitation conditions with optimal chemical conversion.
The main goal is the development of a technology to control and regulate the cavitation process, with a focus on coupling flow mechanics and reaction kinetics.
In the project, the chemical and physical mechanisms of the conversion process by cavitation are to be clarified. For this purpose, CFD calculations are carried out for the flow in the reactor, accounting for bubble dynamics and chemical reactions. The simulations are complemented by experiments used for model validation and optimization of the process management.
