- Marks the year the first lectures were held in the field of textile technology at the Königlich Sächsischen Polytechnikum (Royal Polytechnical Institute of Saxony).

- The Institute for Textile and Paper Technology is founded by Prof. Meister at the TH Dresden.

- The Institute is organized into two departments:
- Department for Textile and Paper Engineering

- The official opening of the textile machine laboratory.
1939
- Prof. Paul-August Koch (student of Prof. Herzog) becomes Chair of the Department for Textile and Paper Technology.
- The department is rededicated the Department of Fiber Materials Science.
1946
- Dr.-Ing. Walter Frenzel is awarded a full professorship and is appointed the director of the Institute for Textile and Paper Engineering.
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Walter Frenzel is the head of the academic fields of yarn production technology, weaving productions technology and textile testing.
1947
- Prof. Walter Frenzel founds the Institute for Fiber Technology at the Deutschen Akademie der Wissenschaften (DAdW) in Pirna-Copitz, later located on the Hohe Straße in Dresden. He successfully directed the Institute, in addition to holding his academic position at the University, until 1959.
1953
- The Institute for Textile and Paper Engineering is divided into two Institutes; the Institute for Textile Engineering and the Institute for Paper Engineering.
1954
- The construction of the new building for the Institute of Fiber Technology is begun on the Hohe Straße under the direction of Prof. Walter Frenzel.
- A portion of the new building is handed over for use to the Institute of Textile Technology at the TH Dresden.
1957
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Wolfgang Bobeth takes over as head of the Institute for Textile Technology after Prof. Frenzel was conferred emeritus status. He chairs the Department of Textile Fiber Materials and Textile Testing.
1959
- Prof. Wolfgang Bobeth accepts the position as director of the Institute for Fiber Technology at the DAdW.
1960
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Harald Perner accepts a position at the Institute for Textile Technology. He directs the areas of yarn production, weaving, and the planning of textile mills.
1961
- The Institute for Textile Technology moves, with some of its staff, into the third finished section of the building on the Hohe Straße 6.
1965
- Prof. Wolfgang Bobeth initiates the founding of a docent position in the field of ready-made technology.
- Dr.-Ing. Roland Nestler accepts the docent position and begins organizing a teaching and research group, as well as a sewing machine laboratory.
1966
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Harald Perner is appointed professor to the Textile Technology Department and is elected vice dean (until 1968).
1968
- After the third university reform, Prof. Wolfgang Bobeth is appointed head of the newly established Department of Textile Technology and held this position until 1971. The department belongs to the area of process engineering.
1970
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Roland Nestler is appointed professor in the Department of Ready-made Technology and held this position until 1992.
- Dr.-Ing. Peter Offermann is appointed adjunct professor for “Textile Technology.”
1971
- Prof. Wolfgang Bobeth resigns as director of Textile Technology. He continues his position in Textile Fiber Materials as lecturer and researcher until 1988.
- Prof. Harald Perner takes over as department head for Textile Technology until 1977.
1974
- Dr.-Ing. Peter Offermann is appointed docent for the department of “Weft knitting and Knit Production.“
1975
- The Institute celebrates “50 Years of Textile Technology“ at the TU Dresden.
01.02.1977
- The Department of Textile Technology is divided into a separate engineering discipline; Textile and Clothing Technology.
1977
- Prof. Roland Nestler is appointed Chair of the new engineering discipline Textile and Clothing Technology (until 1990).
01.09.1984
- Dr.-Ing. habil. Peter Offermann is appointed associate professor for Textile Technology.
1988
- Prof. Harald Perner retires.
03.10.1990
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Peter Offermann is appointed full professor for Textile Technology.
Dezember 1990
- The Institute for Textile and Clothing Technology is re-founded.
- Prof. Peter Offermann is chosen as the executive director.
29.04.1991
- The scholarly advisory committee of the Institute for Textile and Clothing Technology is formed.
21.11.1991
- The Friends and Sponsors of the Institute for Textile and Clothing Technology at the Technische Universität Dresden e.V. is founded.
1992
- The 1. Dresdner Textiltagung (Textile Conference) is held. The conference is still held biannually in Dresden.
- The Conference is organized through the “Dresdner Forschungs- und Ausbildungsgemeinschaft Textil“ (DFAG). The ITM (formerly ITB) is an active member.
01.01.1993
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Hartmut Rödel is commissioned with a professorship for ready-maded technology. His appointment to full professorship to the Ready-made Technology Department followed on the 1st of October, 1996.
1.04.1994
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hilmar Fuchs is appointed honorary professor for technical textiles at the TU Dresden.
1995/1996
- The Institute on Hohe Str. 6 and the textile machine shop in the Zeuner Building are reconstructed.
1996
- The textile machine shop is dedicated the “Walter-Frenzel-Bau”.
Juli 1999
- The first Collaborative Research Centre is initiated at the ITM (formerly ITB). The ITM takes part in various sub-projects: “Textile Reinforcements for Structural Strengthening and Repair“ (DFG- Collaborative Research Centre 528, Contact: Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Curbach, TU Dresden, Institut für Massivbau).
2000
- A second, modern textile machine shop is erected on the TU campus.
- The Competency Center “Technical Textiles“ is established at the TU Dresden.
Januar 2004
- The second Collaborative Research Centre is initiated. The ITM (formerly ITB) takes part in various sub-projects: „Textile-reinforced composite components for function-integrating multi-material design in complex lightweight applications“ (DFG – Collaborative Research Centre SFB 639; Contact: Prof. Dr.-Ing. W. Hufenbach, TU Dresden, Institut für Leichtbau und Kunststofftechnik).

- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr. h. c. Peter Offermann retires.

- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dipl.-Wirt. Ing. Chokri Cherif accepts the position of Institute’s director and the Professorship of Textile Technology.

- A festive colloquium and gala evening takes place at the TU Dresden celebrating the Institute‘s 80 year anniversary and new leadership.
