Saxon Science Liaison Office India
The Saxon Science Liaison Office India promotes scientific exchange between the Free State of Saxony and India. Operated by TUD|Dresden University of Technology (TUD) on behalf of all Saxon higher education institutions and research institutions, this office is strategically located in Chennai.
The central task is to initiate relationships for scientific and student exchange and joint projects for all Saxon universities with partner universities in India. The office is the central point of contact for partners on the Indian side, especially for universities and institutes that train the qualified specialists of tomorrow in the STEM field.
Missions and objectives:
- Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders in India regarding study and research opportunities in Saxony
- Promote Saxony as a premier hub for education, research, and innovation
- Cultivate strategic partnerships with Indian institutions to enhance collaboration and mutual growth
- Facilitate mobility programs between Saxony and India to encourage student and researcher exchanges and support skilled migration
The Saxon Science Liaison Office India actively promotes Saxony as an attractive destination for study and research at higher education fairs, conferences, symposiums and other relevant events, aiming to attract talent from India to Saxon universities and industries. The office provides counselling for individuals interested in academic exchange and promotes scholarships and funding programs to foster increased exchange between Saxony and India. It also supports start-ups in the Free State of Saxony and India in working collaboratively, enabling mutual benefits in technology transfer and internationalization.
The tasks of the office align with the state government's action plan for attracting international talent to Saxony. By targeting students from specific countries and in fields with a shortage of skilled workers, Saxony is presented as an attractive working environment from the outset. After starting a degree program at a Saxon university, students are encouraged to establish early connections with the economy in the Free State, for example, through internships or work contracts.
The office started its operations on September 1, 2024, and was formally opened by a delegation from Saxony led by Prof. Ursula M Staudinger on October 23, 2024.
