Development of a high resolution Genotyping approach for an effective breeding in strawberry (GENOFRA)
Development of a high resolution Genotyping approach for an effective breeding in strawberry (GENOFRA)
Strawberries are in cultivation for only about 250 years but the gene pool already shows negative domestification effects, including important properties such as taste or resistance against pathogenes. Within this project, the sole parents (Fragaria chiloensis and F. virginiana) of Fragaria ×ananassa are being high-density genotyped. By comparing genotyping-by-sequencing data of 185 cultivars from the strawberry gene bank, the genetic diversity and allelic variations will be investigated. These data are being used for the identification of alleles or allelic combinations in SMART breeding. For the high-density genotyping, a genotyping-by-sequencing method is developed in which the less informative repetitive genome fraction is removed prior to sequencing reducing both costs and bioinformatic processing.
