Recording, morphological verification and documentation of genetic resources of Hydrangea cultivars within the network German Genebank Ornamentals
The 2016 founded sub-network Hydrangea of the German Genebank Ornamentals preserves about 600 accessions of Hydrangea wild species and cultivars in the Botanical Collection Pirna-Zuschendorf and over 300 additional accessions in partner organizations throughout Germany in conservation culture. The aim of the network is a sustainable long-term conservation and utilization of genetic resources of Hydrangea cultivars in Germany by means of science-based methods.
Hydrangea wild species and cultivars will be recorded for the database of the German Genebank Ornamentals and their characteristics will be documented. Main focus of the project lies also on the verification of the authenticity of Hydrangea cultivars using original literature and herbarium specimens.
