Theses (BSc or MSc) in the U1 Surgical Room at CeTI (Center for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop)
These interdisciplinary thesis topics are part of CeTI’s U1 lab and focus on the integration of psychology, VR/AR, and human-machine interaction. They explore innovative approaches to better understand perception and cognition in immersive environments by combining psychological research with state-of-the-art technology. The projects benefit from the expertise of a second advisor, a surgeon at the Chair of AI-Based Assistance Systems in Surgery, who provides insights into the practical applications of VR in a surgical context. By bridging psychology and surgery, this research aims to advance both theoretical insights and practical applications in challenging fields such as surgery.

Learning to Juggle in Mixed Reality
Mixed Reality (MR) offers an innovative and immersive learning environment that makes juggling accessible in a new way. In a study, we aim to evaluate an MR application for learning to juggle. We are interested in how haptic feedback helps users engage with the task; how the tutorial supports learning; and what advantages the MR environment offers over traditional juggling.
As part of this study, an empirical master’s thesis position is now available. The study is being conducted at the Chair of Engineering Psychology and Applied Cognitive Research and is part of the CeTI Cluster of Excellence (Center for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop; www.ceti.one)

Autistic traits in developmental prosopagnosia
“Autistic traits in developmental prosopagnosia”
"Does an online intervention involving music, movement, and mindfulness improve psychological and cognitive functions in older adults?"
At the Chair of Biological Psychology at TU Dresden (Interim Director: PD Dr. Olga Klimecki) in collaboration with the DZNE Dresden, Brain and Resilience Research Group (Director: Dr. habil. Dipl.-Psych. Miranka Wirth).
Psychosocial risk factors, such as social isolation and depression, are associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease in older adults. Identifying lifestyle interventions that have a positive impact on mental and social health is therefore crucial for preventive and/or therapeutic measures.
We have developed a multimodal exercise program (REMIND) consisting of physical activity, music, and mindfulness to strengthen the mental health of older adults (ages 60–80). The“REMINDer”study (www.dzne.de/reminder) examines the feasibility of the online exercise program and its effects on, among other things, psychosocial and cognitive functions. The intervention will be conducted over 6 weeks (2 sessions per week) by experienced trainers to investigate the benefits of this low-threshold intervention type.
