TU Dresden and Colegio Alemán Alexander v. Humboldt in Mexico City sign first cooperation agreement
9,827 km separate the TU Dresden and the Colegio Alemán Alexander v. Humboldt, the German School Abroad (DAS) in Mexico City. In Humboldt's day, this might have been considered an almost insurmountable distance. Today, airplanes, Zoom and the like easily bridge the gap. Nevertheless, for many prospective students in Mexico, going to Germany to study represents a major step. TU Dresden would like to ease this transition with the DAAD-funded BIDS project. With the signing of the first official cooperation agreement between TU Dresden and a German school abroad, a first milestone in the project has now been achieved.
In keeping with Humboldt's spirit, STEM subjects are a focus at the German School in Mexico City; it has carried the seal "Mint-friendly school" since 2021 and is thus of particular interest to TU Dresden and its efforts to train urgently needed specialists in the STEM field.
The cooperation includes a number of initiatives, including taster sessions for students of the Colegio Alemán, who will have the opportunity to get to know TU Dresden and gain insights into various study programs. In addition, teachers can take part in advanced training courses and workshops offered by TU Dresden in order to expand their skills and knowledge in their subject area and on study counseling.
Another important component of the project is the awarding of scholarships for first-year students. These are intended to help attract and support talented and committed students from Mexico to study at the TU Dresden.
The signing of the cooperation agreement is seen by both sides as an important part of the cooperation between TU Dresden and the Colegio Alemán Alexander v. Humboldt. Prof. Dr. Michael Kobel, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at TU Dresden, emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the two institutions: "We are very happy to have signed this cooperation agreement with the Colegio Alemán Alexander v. Humboldt. It is an important opportunity to make our cooperation more sustainable and to strategically build our student recruitment."
