Algebra and Number Theory for Teacher Training Students: Dr. Christian Zschalig (#CZ1)
Format
The course comprised:
- An OPAL course, which included the lecture transcript (asynchronous – created by lecturer Junior Prof. Martin Schneider), the assignments for the practicals, two short online tutorials and a forum. Plus, homework assignments were uploaded and evaluated there.
- Three weekly practicals over BigBlueButton (one held by Dr. Antje Noack, two by me). These were not recorded (in my opinion, this would have been too dull, as it is what happens in the moment that makes practicals interesting). The practicals mostly consisted of descriptions of what was on the BBB whiteboard, in part by the students, but mostly by me. Most questions and comments were submitted via the chat function in BBB.
- Matrix chats for the course (one for each practical).

Description
During the practicals, we strove to underpin the lecture content, which was quite abstract for teacher training students, with applied examples and use well-known correlations learned in school to support deeper analysis (see e.g. practicals 6, 2 and 10), even if this was not always possible in practice.
