Dresden – Welcome to the Florence on the Elbe!
Dresden - a beautiful place to study
Dresden is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany and, in combination with the surrounding area, a magnet not only for students. Here, people live together, learn from each other and celebrate together. Dresden is considered the unofficial “capital of student clubs” and offers a wealth of cultural highlights. The Semper Opera House, the baroque Zwinger, the Frauenkirche and the art treasures in the museums such as the “Sistine Madonna” in the Old Masters Picture Gallery, the returned jewels in the Green Vault or works from Caspar David Friedrich to Gerhard Richter in the New Masters Gallery are famous. There are also modern galleries with contemporary art, small experimental theaters and a lively breakdance and urban art scene.
THE trendy district of the city is Neustadt. Here, narrow alleyways and beautiful courtyards with small stores and restaurants from all over the world invite you to discover and be amazed. There is always something going on in and in front of the many bars, pubs and clubs. (Not only in summer) life takes place on the street and in the park.
Dresden is a city of music. With the Sächsische Staatskapelle and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, two orchestras of international standing are based in the state capital. And it is not only classical music that can be found in Dresden. Dresden is well known to jazz fans throughout Germany and is also part of the national and international hip-hop and house music scene with several award winners. All year round, Dresden hosts unique concerts of all styles and sizes.
Cinema lovers are in for a treat in Dresden. The film nights on the banks of the Elbe are among the most popular open air highlights in the city during the summer months. Regular film series and festivals also feature in the calendar of events.
In addition to culture, Dresden scores above all with nature. The Elbe gives the city a special flair and connects it with the surrounding countryside. The Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxon Switzerland are particularly popular for hiking and climbing.
Pillnitz Palace and Park are just as beautiful a destination as the hiking trails, magnificent views and many (wine) delights in the Elbland region around Meissen. This is also home to Europe's oldest porcelain manufactory, which is over 300 years old.

Schloß Moritzburg
Moritzburg Castle is located 20 km east of Meissen and is known as the setting for one of the most popular fairytale films “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”. In winter, you can enjoy ice skating on the frozen ponds around the castle.
If you want, you can easily reach all of these destinations by bike: Dresden is one of Europe's cycling hotspots, and not just because of the well-developed Elbe cycle path, which is also ideal for day trips to the Czech Republic. For example, the largest trade fair for handmade bikes on the European mainland takes place here every year.
For nature lovers, we recommend a visit to the Forest Botanical Garden in Tharandt, the Botanical Garden in Dresden, the “Boselgarten” near Meissen or the Botanical Collections in Pirna-Zuschendorf. All four gardens are institutions of Technische Universität Dresden.
