Report from the annual report 2022
Research is exciting!
The overarching goal of the public relations subproject is to make the innovative research of the CRC/Transregio 280 visible and tangible for a broad interested public. The CRC’s research questions touch on current issues in construction that affect almost every area of life. Building concerns everyone. Think of the necessity of providing socially acceptable living space or of building facilities for supply and mobility, or of the global consequences of construction for the environment and climate. It therefore hits a nerve in the current social discourse when the opportunities and potentials of sustainable construction with carbon reinforced concrete are presented in all its facets in a generally understandable way.
The focus of public relations work is therefore on preparing the objectives and research results of the CRC/TRR in a way that is appropriate for the target group and transporting them to the public via various media and by various ways. Vision, association and communication are the three basic elements of the conceptual work. Recognizing and reflecting should encourage active participation, because the sustainable building of tomorrow cannot be realized in research alone. For practical implementation, it needs the acceptance and cooperation of society.
In 2022, the bilingual website was extensively expanded. In addition, the presence on relevant social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram was intensified. Short tweets, pictures and videos regularly report on special CRC activities there. The shooting at the two sites Dresden and Aachen also made significant progress. The short video clips about every subproject, which are available on the CRC homepage, are intended to provide a low-threshold access to the research topics.
The highlight was the Concrete ART Project during the summer holidays. Our partners were the Dresden Youth Art School and the Bleiberger Fabrik in Aachen. For one week each, pupils aged between 8 and 14 were encouraged to learn about the many different facets of (carbon reinforced) concrete and create their own objects from the material. The program was complemented by doctoral students from the participating institutes with short and informative lectures about the building material.
