Zielstellung
Existing bridges are often affected by increasing loads during its life time. In many cases these bridges don't fulfil the requirements of servieability and/or ultimate limit states. Also the fatigue loads can be a problem. To improve the flexural capacity there are several methods available. The same possibilities are often used to enforce coupling joints. Among other methods, i.e. external tendons, the use of CFRP-Strips has been increasingly used in the last two decades. Different types of strips with and without prestressing depending on the type of required strengthening have been applied. In Germany and Europe, there are no general standards for calculation and application. The usage is only regulated in the special technical approval for each type of CFRP-strip.
the assignment of the Master Thesis is to analyze the state of the art concerning the calculation procedures of strengthening of concrete bridges with CRFP-strips. The investigations are to be conducted on flexural strengthening and on strengthening of coupling joints prone to fatigue. The calculation of strengthening has to be demonstrated in several examples.
