Field Testing Facility
Table of contents
Description
The field testing facility is situated directly at the Wilde Weißeritz river, located between the Lehnmühle and Klingenberg reservoirs near the village of Röthenbach in the Eastern Ore Mountains. It consists of the natural channel of the Wilde Weißeritz and an adjacent technical test channel with a trapezoidal cross section. The position between the two reservoirs allows easy water supply of the two test sections with water flows of more than 10 m³/s. By damming the Wilde Weißeritz with a stoplog weir and regulating the inflow to the test channels using a flap gate, the respective inflows can be adjusted variably. Large-scale test series can thus be carried out at a scale of 1:1 and specifically under natural conditions.
Testing options
The testing options in the field testing facility cover a wide spectrum, such as:
- Tests on the erosion stability of riverbeds and embankments under natural conditions,
- Studies of the resistance behaviour of natural vegetation and artificial reinforcement materials,
- Spillways, built-in structures, overflowed dams, piers with different channel conditions,
- Test series of measuring equipment for use in nature,
- Studies of varied discharge processes such as surge, negative surge, and dam bursting.
