Equal opportunities at our Faculty
References to activities, initiatives, programs, awards and offers of our TU Dresden that are intended to help to achieve or ensure equal opportunities for people with different biographies and different current framework conditions in order to secure the implementation and further development of teaching and research for the future with this practised diversity.
The opportunities listed here are described in relation to our Faculty where appropriate.
The TUD's Equality Concept provides concrete starting points for equality work at TU Dresden in 9 areas of activity, right down to the Chair level. It sets out measures with the respective persons responsible for implementation, the expected effects and the planned costs.
Diversity-sensitive communication in language and images should not only help to ensure that all groups of people are addressed, but that they really feel addressed.
To this end, TU Dresden has compiled a guide to gender-sensitive language and images. In addition to this, the brochure Ausgesprochen vielfältig from the Coordination Office for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities at Saxon Universities and Colleges can be ordered free of charge. Both publications are constantly being revised and adapted to the latest findings from research and society.
It is important to note that there is no "right" or "wrong" answer to this topic. Efforts to achieve inclusive communication play a central role. The only thing that should be avoided is ignoring the different needs of those affected.
It's inevitable - when you deal with people, there will be conflicts. However, these should not be ignored. If you are unable to address and resolve the conflicts yourself with the people concerned, there are various offers of help available at our TU Dresden.
Student conflict resolution support for students
As a university group recognized by the StuRa, the Student Conflict Resolution Service is there to help and advise students. They support students in resolving conflicts, e.g. arguments with fellow students, trouble in a shared flat, stress with friends. Using the method of mediation, they provide individual and confidential support and help to create clarity.

Caring for family members in need of care and balancing work and study is an important issue. It can affect any family - gradually or suddenly. Independent advice on pressing issues relating to care is a great relief.
As a certified family-friendly university, TU Dresden wants to support its students and employees with (impending) care responsibilities. That is why it offers independent care advice directly on campus in cooperation with care advisor Susan Holbein.
Services for all associate members of TU Dresden:
- Care advice on campus
- Visits in the home environment
- Lectures and seminars
- Online portal

The Maternity Protection Act has also applied to female students since January 1, 2019. Find out about your rights (and obligations). If female students report their pregnancy or breastfeeding period to the Examination Office using a form, the module coordinators or lecturers must take action and carry out a risk analysis.
For female employees, nothing changes compared to the situation before 1.1.2019.
Note: The TUD website on maternity protection with its forms, information sheets and checklists is located in the internal area and can only be accessed by students and staff after logging in.
TU Dresden awards Best Practice Diversity-Sensitive Teaching Awards. The teaching awards are intended to highlight the high relevance of excellent teaching for all students. Previous award winners can be viewed at: https: //tu-dresden.de/tu-dresden/universitaetskultur/diversitaet-inklusion/preise-und-wettbewerbe/preise-und-wettbewerbe
The aim of the award for diversity-sensitive teaching is to recognize teachers and/or teaching concepts that deal with diversity or one or more dimensions of diversity in the sense of TU Dresden's 2030 Diversity Strategy. In this way, the courses and teaching staff help to sensitize students to diversity. At the same time, the teaching award is intended to demonstrate the high relevance of diversity-sensitive aspects in excellent teaching.
TU Dresden has developed the Online Program against Test Anxiety (OPTA), an online program for overcoming presentation and exam anxiety. It is aimed at students, doctoral candidates and lecturers with particularly pronounced presentation and examination anxiety.
In addition to a self-test, an information module and several training modules, OPTA also offers tips, exercises, case studies and videos. OPTA can be used as a website or as an app.
The special inclusion funds are provided by the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts (SMWK) for an earmarked purpose and are used at TU Dresden by selecting inclusion projects applied for internally. All TU Dresden employees are eligible to apply via their supervisors and students via the StuRa.
Active recruitment plays a central role in filling vacancies with "the best". On the one hand, this involves approaching potential applicants directly. On the other hand, this tool is also intended to help close the "gender gap" in leadership positions.
The active recruitment guidelines were developed by the AR officer specifically for appointment procedures.
