Research on current regional economic topics
We concentrate on urban and environmental issues as well as topics in the field of transport economics and transport policy. For instance, we show which effect climate policy measures have on wealth of urban population or we evaluate the effect of electricity subventions on e-mobility. Furthermore, we discuss the determinants of migration decisions or regional productivity. Additionally we cover the question how to evaluate the willingness to pay for non-market goods. All research at our chair is mainly empirically.
Research
We use an urban model as a basis of our urban and environmental studies. In this model household decisions, transportation, externalities, firms and the government are included. The urban model can be used to evaluate climate policy measures, the reduction of CO2-emissions or the shift to e-mobility.
For further research questions we use data, to deal with regional economic topics. We find that neighbor regions have an effect on the productivity of a region. For instance we show which effect the demographic change has on regional productivity.
However, often we cannot monetarily measure the positive and negative effects of traffic and transportation, because not for all goods markets exist. To consistently measure all relevant effects for the society as a whole a proper evaluation is necessary. The monetary evaluation of i.e. environmental effects, travel time and accident risk therefore is an important question. To deal with issues like that the Chair of Economics, esp. Transport Policy and Spatial Economics uses econometric methods to estimate the willingness to pay for such effects.
