The PIANOFORTE Open Call 2024 is open!
The European Partnership for Radiation Protection Research (acronym: PIANOFORTE) aims to improve knowledge and promote innovation in the field of radiation protection in order to achieve better protection of the public, patients, workers and the environment in all scenarios of exposure to ionizing radiation.
PIANOFORTE is launching the second transnational call for project proposals to support innovative research projects in the field of radiation protection. The objectives of the call are:
- Support transnational research projects that combine innovative approaches in the field of radiation protection;
- Active involvement of education and training activities and collaboration with universities in multidisciplinary research projects;
- Optimal use of research infrastructures.
This call will focus on 4 main topics and project proposals must fall under one of these topics:
Topic 1
Development of a knowledge base for a better understanding of the pathogenesis of ionizing radiation-induced cancer to improve risk assessment.
Topic 2
Ensure preparedness and scientific knowledge to support environmental impact assessment and emergency preparedness and response for new nuclear technologies.
Topic 3
Develop techniques and methods to go beyond the effective dose when internal exposure occurs following a nuclear or radiological emergency.
Topic 4
Introduction of new and optimized radiotherapy concepts for better targeting to better protect healthy tissue from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
Proposals must clearly demonstrate the potential impact on radiation protection in Europe and the added value of transnational cooperation.
Timetable and funding conditions:
- July 23, 2024 - deadline for full proposal
- Min. 3 partners from 3 different countries
- Max. 48 months project duration
- 63% funding à SMWK - increase to 100%
- Expected project volume: EUR 1 - 1.5 million
- Eligible institutions:
- Beneficiaries
- Affiliated entities
- "Third parties (e.g. TU Dresden, companies)
- max. 300,000 EUR project costs for third parties
- at least 3 partners from 3 eligible countries (at least 1 "third party"!)
- Participating institutions need a gender equality plan
Participating countries:
Each of the countries must be based in an EU member state or a country associated with the Euratom program (Ukraine only).
