FutureFoodS announced its first call - “Transforming Food Systems…“!
The new European partnership FutureFoodS launches its first transnational co-funded call: "Transforming Food Systems - reshaping food system interactions, fostering food innovations and empowering sustainable food choices."
This call brings together 36 funding organizations from 19 countries and the European Commission, with a funding volume of up to 40 million euros to support innovative research and development projects aimed at creating a sustainable future food production.
The call will support innovative projects that contribute to one of the following topics:
- Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
- Topic 2: New foods - Fostering innovations in food design, processing and supply via demand and supply reorientation
- Topic 3: Empowering sustainable food choices - Enabling food environments and dietary shifts
The guiding elements for FutureFoodS projects are a transformative perspective, inter- and transdisciplinarity, multi-stakeholder engagement and sustainability.
The FutureFoodS partnership focuses on the fact that current European food systems are not sustainable in the face of complex challenges. What is needed here is a mobilization of knowledge, stakeholders and resources within a "food system". Such an approach is important as it promotes a holistic view in tackling complex problems, incorporating enduring interdependencies between food system stakeholders and focusing on identifying drivers and leverage points within systems.
Please note that primary production (on land and in the sea/water), such as food crops, agricultural crop production and other related specific aspects as well as diseases related to nutrition and lifestyle are not the focus of this partnership. These aspects are addressed in other Horizon Europe partnerships. However, the interdependencies and impacts of these aspects may need to be considered in a project in order to fully incorporate the "food systems approach".
