Copernicus Prize 2026
Every two years, the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Foundation for Polish Science (Fundacja na rzecz Nauki Polskiej, FNP) jointly award the Copernicus Prize to one scientist in Germany and one scientist in Poland for outstanding achievements in German-Polish research cooperation in all subject areas. The DFG and FNP would like to invite suitable candidates to be nominated for the eleventh time.
The Copernicus Award is intended to recognize researchers who are active in German-Polish research cooperation and who have achieved outstanding results in their field of research as a result of this cooperation. Complementary expertise and research activities as well as joint use of resources to solve research problems are elementary components of these achievements. The results of the collaboration should be of high importance for the respective research community and have the potential to open up new perspectives in the respective research field or beyond.
The award is open to all subject areas. Half of the prize money of 200,000 euros will be provided by the DFG and half by the FNP and will be divided equally between the two winners. The funds should be used to further intensify German-Polish research cooperation.
Doctoral researchers who are actively working at universities and/or research institutions in Germany and Poland are eligible to nominate candidates. Self-nominations are also possible. Suitable candidates must hold a doctorate and be actively working at a public German or Polish university and/or research institution. Nominations of female candidates are expressly encouraged.
