The founder Friedrich August Boysen was an airship engineer who became a pioneer of modern silencer technology and founded his first company in Leipzig in 1921. At the end of the Second World War, he succeeded in making a new start in southern Germany, marking the birth of today's Boysen Group. His wife Elisabeth Boysen continued her husband's life's work and developed the company into an international system partner in the fields of exhaust gas purification and soundproofing. In 1996, the company was transformed into a non-profit foundation and since then has promoted science and research in the field of environmental technology, including the annual award of a sponsorship prize for outstanding dissertations at TUD. The award is endowed with prize money of €5,000.
