This interactive workshop offers a combination of methodological input and examples of current interview projects. It includes a brief introduction to the qualitative research paradigm and provides an overview of the different approaches to conducting interviews. The challenges of asking good interview questions and developing an adequate topic guide will be discussed in detail. Issues of validity, ethical obligations and options for recruiting participants will also be covered. Wherever possible, the intricacies of interview practice will be illustrated through short exercises or by discussing selected issues of the participants own research projects. Participants are welcome to present and discuss elements of the planned interview project (e.g. the first draft of atopic guide) during the workshop.
The workshop will be held in English. Therefore, workshop participants should also conduct their research in English language or at least be prepared to present their work in English. English levelC1 is recommended.
If you are interested both in presenting and discussing elements of your interview study during the workshop (work in progress highly welcome), please contact Carola Nürnberg by October 15th at
