For postdoctoral scientists and academics, the career start often goes hand in hand with taking on leadership responsibilities. However, even during the doctoral degree process it may be necessary to show leadership skills in various contexts, e.g. in situations where students need supervision during their traineeships and tutorials or if responsibility has to be taken for student assistants. But what is leadership? How should I fulfil my role? How motivated am I? How do I allocate tasks? How should I communicate? The workshop will focus on these and other questions. The course is aimed at doctoral candidates seeking an introduction to the topic of “leadership”. Participants will first discuss the personal prerequisites for assuming leadership responsibilities and then learn about relevant leadership tools and methods. They will also gain insights into the processes involved in guiding groups and teams. In addition to theoretical basics, the emphasis will be on doing practical exercises and reflecting on the results of. Please bring along your questions and experiences (including any experiences you have concerning being supervised). |
