The lecture series will take stock of current perspective in the vibrant and oftentimes contested field of Gender Studies. Gender Studies is an area of research that cuts across traditional disciplinary boundaries: its central category of analysis provides a lens through which to address various objects of study in a variety of methodological ways. In turn, these objects and approaches contribute to shaping a complex understanding of gender as a category that shapes institutions, knowledge, and individuals’ lives, among others. This lecture course will open windows into research by scholars from different fields, primarily from the humanities and social sciences, and thus allow students to learn about a variety of perspectives on gender and the potential that the study of gender holds. Lectures will be given in German and English.
