JoDDiD meets police
The basis:
Last year, the JoDDiD employees went on an internship. Our Research Associate Tina Hölzel spent time at the police training college in Schneeberg. If you want to become a police officer in Saxony, you have to complete an apprenticeship and go back to school at one of the police academies in Schneeberg, Chemnitz or Leipzig. In addition to more job-specific practical subjects, the prospective officers also receive lessons in political education. During the internship, Tina Hölzel was able to provide scientific advice and support in the revision of the training plans for social studies and professional ethics. This has now resulted in a long-term cooperation with the Saxon police force.
What does the cooperation look like now?
The cooperation is currently focused on four areas:
1. The JoDDiD conducts advanced training formats for all teachers of social studies and some teachers of professional ethics throughout Saxony on political didactics content. In this way, we want to reach all police candidates in Saxony for the intermediate service who are training at Saxon police schools and support them in the field of political education.
2. The JoDDiD organizes the networking of political-educational activists from Saxony and the Saxony police force on the new content-related teaching focuses of social studies. An initial kick-off meeting has already taken place. Cooperation in police training is now being initiated. From intercultural and discrimination-sensitive police work to basic democracy exercises such as the island game, we support the joint concept for the police school context and establish long-term cooperation with new partners in Saxony.
3) JoDDiD advises on the conception of the Saxony Police_History Forum, which focuses on the "functions of the police in the democratic constitutional state" (Saxony Police) and is aimed at "candidates in police training as well as police officers in the context of further education and training" (Saxony Police). We also provide support here in the didactic conception, e.g. by means of guided tours or reflection days, as well as the utilization for police training.
4. The JoDDiD develops further training formats for riot police officers throughout Saxony on political didactic content. We are still at the very beginning of our cooperation here. However, we are full of interest and commitment to working together with the police officers already on duty on issues of political education. We have already identified areas of overlap and opportunities in several discussions and are now designing offers.
If you are also interested in cooperation in this context or are interested in general, please contact our colleague Ms. Tina Hölzel.
