NeXT - Forum for POSTDOCS of the schools BU and ING
Goals
NExT stands for networking, expertise, opportunities and inspiration!
With NExT, POSTDOCS in the schools of BU and ING get another opportunity to network, educate and inspire. The focus is on promoting professional exchange opportunities between women of different disciplines, as they are still very much underrepresented in both fields. Central topics include equal opportunities in everyday professional life and gender and diversity aspects in research. In addition, topics such as the compatibility of career and family are to be opened up to ALL.
Interested parties can find out more about the concept here.
Please note: The concept is only available in German.

Reviews
The 5th NExT forum was held on 10.02.2024 as a networking event on the day of action "International Day of Women and Girls in Science" in cooperation with the BU and ING departments and the PhD Council working group of the StuRa doctoral students of TU Dresden: https: //tu-dresden.de/ing/der-bereich/chancengerechtigkeit/veranstaltungen
The fourth NExT forum on the topic of "Family and Career" took place on 28.11.2023. Participants at previous events had expressed particular interest in the topic. The representative of the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Unit, Franziska Schneider, provided information about the various offers at TU Dresden that expectant parents, family carers or partners, as well as people with special needs, can take advantage of. There was a particular focus on managing family life and a career at the same time, but same-sex relationships and single parenthood were also discussed. Numerous questions from the interested participants quickly led to a lively discussion, which was deepened in the networking part of the event. The exchange of personal experiences was combined with information on the services offered by TU Dresden. Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartmann's report on his start at the Institute of Groundwater Management with parental leave was particularly interesting. He vividly described how a dual career with two Chairs and a child can be successful.

On November 22, 2022, the kick-off event of the POSTDOC Forum NExT of the Schools of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Sciences took place. With the aim of establishing a platform for exchange, networking and training for postdocs from both structural units in the future, the equal opportunity officers of the two units invited interested young scientists to a first joint meeting.
The participants were given the opportunity to learn about the activities, organizational structures and research priorities of the areas as well as the content of the equal opportunities work. There was input on facts and figures from controlling from Peggy Kaiser. The project scouts from the SG Research Funding, Dr. Nicolle Seiffert and Dr. Rico Hickmann, gave an insight into the multitude of possibilities to acquire third-party funding in the various phases after the completion of the doctoral thesis. Attention was also drawn to the offers of the Graduate Academy and the European Project Center (EPC). Of course, networking and the exchange of ideas among each other were not to be neglected. Over snacks and tea, the participants were able to get to know each other better and engage in conversation.
