OASIS - Overcoming Anxiety: Psychotherapy in Shared Virtual Reality with Generative AI Systems
Our aim is to advance psychotherapy for anxiety disorders through shared virtual reality (VR) and generative artificial intelligence (AI). Below, you will find detailed information about our mission, objectives, and the people involved in this pioneering initiative.
Project Summary
The OASIS Interdisciplinary Innovation Project aims to develop and evaluate tools to utilize generative AI in a multi-user mixed reality (MUMR) platform for the creation of tailored, individualized exposure therapy treatments. Our system is designed to enable therapists and patients to experience and interact within the same virtual environment, facilitating a novel multi-user mixed reality exposure treatment (MUMR-ET) for anxiety disorders. The project incorporates advanced elements such as context-aware stimuli, attention visualization, and interactional features that enhance therapist-patient collaboration. Additionally, we leverage generative AI and real-world capture techniques to rapidly create individualized, high-fidelity virtual scenarios for therapeutic use.
Applications / Exhibitions
Upon commencement in January 2025, OASIS will build upon our ViewR platform to demonstrate the utility and effectiveness of shared VR/MR in clinical psychotherapy settings. These applications will also be featured in academic exhibitions, revealing promising avenues for the future of VR in mental health treatment.
