Portrait Prof. Thomas
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christiane Thomas has been Professor of Refrigeration, Cryogenics and Compressor Technology at the Institute of Power Engineering since September 1, 2022.
Without the fields of refrigeration, cryogenics and compressor technology ...
the energy transition remains just a dream.
Being a professor...
for me means supporting students and scientists in learning, growing, researching and developing, being allowed to learn new things myself every day, generating and discussing new ideas and building a teaching and research environment that encourages and challenges motivated and ambitious people.
Students...
should be motivated and open to new ideas, not shy away from questions and research and it should be clear that time and work must be invested in order to make progress.
In the future...
the Chair's areas of expertise will come even more into the public eye: cool cars in summer, warm living rooms in winter, new drive materials and methods, gas networks and the necessary components, research and development on and with cryogenic materials, environmentally friendly working fluids.... The end of the list is not in sight.
If I could study again...
I would either try my hand at aerospace engineering and fly to the moon or study architectural history.
Excellence...
for me means that, in addition to the outstanding projects of the Excellence Initiative, teaching is just as important, as only with an excellent education can we provide future generations with the knowledge they need to develop, tinker and research. This also includes providing university staff with the appropriate framework for excellent research, education and training.
