Medical textiles
The development, textile-technical realization and optimization of medical textiles in their wide range of products are at the center of attention of the medical textile research focus at the Chair of Textile Technology. Hospital textiles (e.g. high-density OR clothes, and OR drapes), bandages, ortheses and prostheses, and intelligent system for customized drug administration. The product-oriented research and development includes:
- basics for the development of fabrics for surgical textiles with optimized barrier effect against particles, microorganisms, and fluids,
- simulation-assisted finishing of barrier fabrics with partial particle application,
- sensor-integrated wound dressings with healing process monitoring for chronic wounds, especially of the pH value, temperature, lactate content, and NET (Neutrophil Extracellular Traps) content,
- The custom, shape-adjusted production of ortheses by means of flat knitting, and
- the development of testing methods for the various specifications of medical textiles.
