Habilitation (post-doctoral lecture qualification)
Habilitation determines your suitability for conducting research and independent teaching in a particular subject or field. Your authorisation to teach is issued along with the habilitation.
Upon successful completion of the habilitation, the applicant is conferred the academic degree of habilitated doctor at the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, indicated by “habil.” before their degree.

Procedure of the habilitation process
Before you submit your application to open the habilitation procedure, you must present yourself to the Faculty Council. The presentation is a 5-minute lecture and a 5-minute discussion. The presentation should include the following:
- Introduction of yourself and your academic career
- Teaching experience
- Field of research
- Publications (peer-reviewed)
- Titel of the habilitation
- Intended field of teaching (teaching qualification you want to gain)
- Type of habilitation (monograph or cumulative habilitation)
- Planned submission
The application for admission to the habilitation / habilitation application must be submitted informally to the Dean of the Faculty. It must include:
- 5 copies of the habilitation thesis
- Officially certified copy of the doctoral degree certificate + translation into German or English if needed
- Detailed curriculum vitae with academic career
- List of publications (papers, patents, conferences, ...)
- List of courses taught (teaching experience)
- Declaration of independence (no template available)
- Proof of application for a simple certificate of good conduct for submission to the authorities, which is sent to the doctoral office (the certificate of good conduct must not be older than 3 months at the time of submission)

3 reviewer proposals (at least one from outside the TU; please make sure that they are not biased)
- Intended subject area for the habilitation
- 3 suggested topics for the academic presentation
- 3 suggested topics for the trial lecture
- 1 copy of the dissertation (will be returned to you at the end of the procedure)
- Special publications can also be submitted and will be returned at the end of the procedure
- 3 positive reports are available
- Display time (2 weeks) is over
- Determination of the date and selection of the respective topic for the academic presentation with colloquium and the trial lecture by the habilitation committee
- Formal conclusion of the procedure in the Faculty Council
- Publication of the 6 deposit copies in the SLUB
