Distance learning
Technical distance learning has a long tradition at TU Dresden. It provides the opportunity to meaningfully combine work and study.
Basic studies – Diploma and Bachelor
The Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering at TU Dresden offers the Mechanical Engineering programme as both a technical university distance learning Diploma and Bachelor course (Dresden model).
Entry requirements for admission to the Mechanical Engineering course are university entrance qualifications (Abitur) or recognised equivalent qualifications in the form of corresponding subject-specific higher education entrance qualifications (not those required to attend a university of applied sciences). Applicants with a Master Craftsman's Certificate, state-approved Engineering Diploma or technical education qualifications may also be admitted to the course via the higher education access scheme for those with vocational qualifications with advanced occupational training.
When successfully completed, the course leads to a Chartered Engineer or Bachelor of Science qualification.
The standard study period, including the time required to complete the dissertation, is twenty semesters (part-time distance learning) for the Diploma programme and twelve semesters (part- time distance learning) for the Bachelor degree. However, we recommend a study schedule that can be tailored to your individual requirements. You should allow for around 20 hours per week of self-study.
Postgraduate Diploma
For graduates with a recognised first degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering obtained in Germany, the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering offers a postgraduate degree leading to a Chartered Engineer qualification.
The standard study period for this is eight semesters, including the time required to complete the project and final paper. You should allow for around 20 hours per week of self-study.
